West Ham Sack Head Coach Graham Potter Amid Poor Start to Season

West Ham have dismissed head coach Graham Potter after just eight months in charge, with the club languishing in 19th place in the Premier League.

The Hammers have managed only three points from their opening five league matches, prompting the club to take decisive action.

A statement from the east London club read: “We believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible. Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025-26 season have not matched expectations.”

Potter, 50, had been preparing for Monday night’s game against Everton and carried out his media duties on Friday. Following last Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace, reports from BBC Sport indicated that the club was exploring managerial alternatives.

Nuno Espirito Santo, recently relieved of his duties at Nottingham Forest, is reportedly a frontrunner for the role.

Since his appointment in January, Potter oversaw 25 matches, securing just six victories, with West Ham finishing 14th in the league last season.

“The board would like to thank Graham and his coaching staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future,” the club added.

“The process of appointing a replacement is underway. The club will be making no further comment at this time.”
