Dormaahene, Osagyefo Dr. Fredua Agyemang Badu II, who’s also the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, has dropped some humorous but direct advice for Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
His target? Afenyo-Markin’s super-dramatic sit-in protest at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters.
The whole thing went down last Thursday, May 29, when Minority MPs staged an epic sit-in protest, demanding the immediate release of NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi. They felt Wontumi’s GH₵50 million bail (with two sureties to be justified) was totally unreasonable and politically motivated.
But Dormaahene wasn’t feeling the “sitting on the floor” vibe. “I’m not saying Ghanaians should not support him, but Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin going to EOCO and sitting on the floor—I wasn’t happy with it. He is [an] honourable. He should let me know when he wants to go to such a place so I can send one of my people to follow him with a seat,” the chief quipped with a side of sarcasm.
While the Dormaahene admitted he’s personally a fan of Chairman Wontumi, he made it crystal clear that due process still matters. “Chairman Wontumi—I really like him, but even though I like him, I am not saying due process shouldn’t work. If I have done something wrong, the law allows me to be investigated.”
The chief’s comments come after the Minority Caucus’s high-profile protest saw MPs march from Parliament, blocking traffic and drawing a huge police presence, all while decrying Wontumi’s “political persecution.”
Wontumi had been arrested on May 27 over alleged financial irregularities, money laundering and causing financial lost to the state.
