A 55-year-old trader has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly abducting and sexually exploiting a 17-year-old girl for more than a year.
The accused, Cesar Victoire Tsala, a Cameroonian national, is facing charges of human trafficking, abduction of an unmarried female under 18, and rape.
According to prosecutors, Tsala lured the teenager with promises of enrolling her in a football team but instead subjected her to repeated sexual abuse.
The case, presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah, was adjourned after Tsala requested that his plea be taken in French, the language he is fluent in. However, no interpreter was available, prompting the court to postpone proceedings to September 29, 2025, to make arrangements for one.
Investigations revealed that in 2024, while the victim—a Nigerian national—was preparing for her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at Spintex, Accra, Tsala allegedly abducted her. She remained missing for over a year, with her family unaware of her whereabouts.
The victim eventually escaped on September 12, 2025, and filed a complaint with the police. She recounted how Tsala transported her first to Kasoa and later to East Legon, where he allegedly abused her sexually.
Prosecutors further claim Tsala deceived the girl by offering to provide her with shelter, basic necessities, French lessons, and a football team to join, none of which materialized.
The case has since been adjourned for further proceedings.
