Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has been widely celebrated for her achievements in the music industry, even as she admits feeling that her efforts have not been fully recognised.
In a recent interview on The Delay Show, the artist reflected on the challenges she has faced since her debut. Arts and culture journalist Kwame Dadzie, however, described her as a “star,” praising her remarkable progress over the past decade.
Dadzie, in a Facebook post, noted that Sista Afia should take pride in her career trajectory. He highlighted her resilience in a competitive, male-dominated industry, where she has thrived without the backing of a major investor.
Sista Afia entered the scene in 2015 with her debut single Kro Kro No featuring Bisa K’dei, followed by Jeje with Shatta Wale, which propelled her to wider recognition. Since then, she has built an impressive catalogue of collaborations with top Ghanaian and Nigerian acts.
Dadzie stressed that while only a tiny fraction of musicians attain global superstardom, many, like Afia, create sustainable and respected careers.
“She may not have reached the level she desires yet, but she is THERE! Afia is very talented. She sings so well,” he wrote, adding that she has already won the admiration of countless fans.
Encouraging her to embrace her progress, Dadzie concluded: “She has the potential to soar even higher. In the meantime, she should revel in the smaller gains… Sista Afia is already a star.”
In his post, Dadzie further explained that while just 0.1% of musicians achieve global fame, about 5–10% sustain meaningful careers through performances, licensing, teaching, or session work. Success, he noted, is not only about fame but also about building a life supported by one’s art.
He urged Sista Afia to appreciate how far she has come, reminding her that many young artistes would be grateful to be at her level.
