Sarkodie Calls for Investment in Kumasi’s Creative Arts Industry

Ghanaian rap legend Sarkodie is urging investors to direct resources into Kumasi’s creative arts sector, emphasizing that music is not only a lucrative industry but also a powerful tool for community transformation and wealth creation.

Delivering the keynote address at the Kumasi Rising: Music, Media & Tourism Dialogue on Thursday at the IDL Conference Hall, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Sarkodie made a strong case for sustainable investment in the arts.

The summit, hosted by broadcast journalist Serwah Amihere, formed part of activities ahead of Rapperholic: The Homecoming, Sarkodie’s much-anticipated concert slated for Saturday, September 27, in Kumasi.

The dialogue drew a distinguished audience including Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister; Abeiku Santana, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority; Nabil Alhassan, CEO of Event Factory Ghana; as well as artists, journalists, students, and other industry stakeholders.

Speaking on the global influence of African music, Sarkodie praised Afrobeats for reshaping cultural pride and identity.

“We are in a great space now because of where Afrobeats is. Now we have AfroNation worldwide. Africans in the diaspora are more confident to call themselves Africans because of what we have been able to do,” he noted.

Sarkodie urged investors to think beyond conventional ventures, insisting that the music business is one of the safest and most rewarding.

“Music is one of the safest and most lucrative businesses you can get into. I can compare music to any other product you can talk about, be it water or real estate,” he said.

He further encouraged the adoption of innovative investment models, stressing the importance of ownership and partnerships.

“It’s about ownership. Whether it’s partnership, you can partner and own 20% or 50% depending on what you bring on board. Even as an individual, you can buy shares and make revenue from there,” Sarkodie explained.

The Kumasi Rising Dialogue aimed to spotlight Kumasi as a hub for music, media, and tourism, while promoting sustainable investment in the city’s creative economy. With his homecoming concert only days away, Sarkodie’s message adds momentum to the push for unlocking Kumasi’s cultural and economic potential through the arts.
