I don’t believe in hearsay; I felt I was going to win AOTY – King Promise

Newly crowned Artiste of the Year (AOTY) at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), King Promise has disclosed he never accommodated any negative thoughts about not being able to win the biggest award.

The ‘Terminator’ hitmaker noted that he was positive all along to take home the most prestigious award at the 26th TGMAs.

In an interview on TV3’s New Day, Monday, May 12, 2025, King Promise said “its 100% what I believed in. I said this earlier on in an interview.”

“I don’t put that kind of energy in the air, you know. I try to stay positive. Why put it in the air that if I don’t win? I don’t believe in the hearsay. It’s really how I felt (winning the AOTY),” he stated.

The afrobeats artiste noted that winning the AOTY award is a blessing to him as he’s worked hard and deserves it.

Speaking about the competition between himself and other contenders for the AOTY, King Promise explained that he recognised it to be a “healthy competition” and not a rivalry because it was necessary for his success story.

“Healthy competition, for me it’s not rivalry because everyone who was nominated for the award definitely deserves to be there. For it to be something of a success, it had to be something of a challenge,” he stated.

King Promise shared why he was very certain he deserved the Artiste of the Year award.

“I believe my work spoke for itself. I try to make sure I always put the music first. Whatever shenanigans follows, it really like secondary for me. In the year under review, my album that I dropped has done extremely well.”
