Ghanaian boxer Ernest Akushey, popularly known as ‘Bahubali,’ has died just days after his last fight, leaving behind a four-month-old son.
Akushey was stopped in the eighth round of his bout against Jacob Dickson on September 12 at the Bukom Boxing Arena. Reports indicate he suffered internal bleeding, with his death confirmed early Tuesday.
Acting Ghana Boxing Authority President Roger Banor expressed condolences, saying: “This very unfortunate incident has taken away the father of a four-month-old baby boy. While his son will grow up without him, we will support him as a father figure.”
Bahubali’s death is the second tragedy in Ghanaian boxing this year, following the passing of Gabriel Aluwasegun in April. The GBA has promised to strengthen medical care for boxers after fights.
