Former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta is expected to appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Monday, June 2, 2025.
His presence is critical for five key reasons: he is at the centre of major corruption investigations, and failure to appear will trigger international law enforcement actions, including an INTERPOL Red Notice.
The OSP is investigating Mr. Ofori-Atta in connection with five high-stakes cases linked to his tenure under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. These include:
Key Issues Under Investigation:
-
- Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance:
Contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). - Electricity Company Contract Termination:
The termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC). - National Cathedral Project:
Procurement procedures and financial transactions related to the National Cathedral. - Ambulance Procurement:
A Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for purchasing and maintaining 307 ambulances. - GRA Tax P-Fund Management:
Handling and disbursement of funds from the Tax P-Fund Account of the GRA.
- Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance:
In January 2025, the OSP officially designated Mr. Ofori-Atta a suspect and requested his personal appearance.
However, he initially failed to comply, citing medical reasons and offering legal representation instead—an offer the OSP rejected.
After months of delay, the OSP warned that any further absence would result in Mr. Ofori-Atta being declared a fugitive again.
According to the latest OSP statement, if he fails to appear on June 2, he will be re-listed as wanted, and the OSP will initiate a request for an INTERPOL Red Notice to facilitate international arrest.
