A businessman, Francis Appeynarh, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding a businesswoman of GH¢850,000 in a maize supply deal. Three others, identified as Boakye, Dr. Samir Kazi, and Baffour, are currently on the run.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Godwin Wemegah, told the court that in August 2025, the accused persons approached the complainant, Gifty Ndoma, whose company deals in grain supply at Ejura. They allegedly introduced themselves under the business name Earth Organisation Ghana, claiming they urgently needed 3,000 bags of maize to feed poultry at a farm.
The complainant delivered the maize between August 23 and 27, 2025, after agreeing on a total cost of GH¢850,000, with the assurance of prompt payment. However, prosecutors said the accused persons refused to answer her calls afterward and quickly sold the maize below market value without making any payment.
Police investigations revealed that the consignment was stored at a warehouse near Gulf City, Ashaiman. Out of the 3,000 bags, the accused allegedly disposed of 1,951 bags at reduced prices. The police managed to retrieve 1,049 bags and recover GH¢95,000 from Appeynarh.
Appeynarh has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud and defrauding by false pretences. The court, presided over by Mrs. Susuna Eduful, granted him bail of GH¢800,000 with two sureties earning not less than GH¢3,000.
The case has been adjourned to October 27, 2025, while police continue efforts to arrest the remaining accomplices and recover the outstanding maize.
