Thomas Partey has been one of Arsenal’s consistent performers this term.
Barcelona have lined up Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey as a potential summer candidate, per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
However, Barcelona were an unable to sign him up four years ago as he joined Premier League side Arsenal.
Nonetheless, Barcelona still maintain their interest in the player, whose contract runs out in the summer of 2025.
The Blaugranas are plotting a sensational summer raid for the midfielder, who is ideally seen as a natural replacement for Frenkie de Jong, whose time in Spain is coming to a close.
A combination of factors, including financial, on-field performances, and injuries, have led to de Jong’s sour situation.
The financial crisis at Barcelona means the team has to free-up space on the wage bill by offloading high-earning players, with de Jong the major culprit in that regard.
Just as its become accustomed with Barcelona in recent years (pulling levers and pursuing free transfers), the summer transfer window could see Barcelona revive their interest in free players as a result of their financial instability.
The player in question, Partey, has put his injury woes behind him in the ongoing season, playing 17 league games, providing two assists and scoring two goals thus far.
In the Champions league, the 31-year-old has also featured in all six of Arsenal games, underlining his importance to Arteta and Arsenal.
