Asante Kotoko mourns late Nana Pooley during One-Week Observation in Kumasi

The one-week celebration of the late Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, was held today at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The event brought together football officials, fans, and loved ones to honour his memory and pay their respects.

Among the notable attendees were Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President Mark Addo, Executive Council member Samuel Aboabire, and Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Chairman John Ansah.

Nana Pooley tragically lost his life on February 2, 2025, after being stabbed at Nana Konamansah Park in Twumasikrom near Nsoatre, in the Bono Region.

The incident occurred during a Ghana Premier League fixture between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, sending shockwaves through the football community.

Also, in attendance at the one-week commemoration were members of Porcupine Tertiary, a passionate supporters’ group of Asante Kotoko, who showed up in their numbers to honour their fallen comrade.

Known for their unwavering love and energy, they brought a strong presence to the occasion, standing in solidarity with the grieving football fraternity.

The ceremony was marked by emotional tributes, reflections on Pooley’s impact on the game, and a shared call for justice.

As the football world continues to mourn his untimely passing, preparations for his final funeral rites are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
