Chelsea, Newcastle United pay tribute to the late Christian Atsu

On January 10, 2025, the football world remembers the late Christian Atsu on what would have been his 33rd birthday.

The Ghanaian winger, who tragically lost his life in the February 2023 earthquake in Turkey, left an indelible mark on both the pitch and in the hearts of many and to honour him, his former clubs paid tributes to him.

One of his former clubs, Chelsea stated on their X page, “Today we remember Christian Atsu on his birthday“.

Newcastle United also shared their heartfelt memories of Atsu’s time at the club, highlighting his contributions during their 2017 season that had the Magpies gain promotion to the English Premier League.

They expressed their sorrow over his passing and celebrated his legacy as a beloved figure among fans stating on their X page.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) follow suit by posting an emotional tribute on the same platform.

Christian Atsu won the Primeira Liga title at FC Porto and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year in 2011. He had stints at Chelsea, Newcastle United, Everton, and Hatayspor in Turkey.

Atsu’s crowning movement was at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was named Player of the Tournament and scored the Goal of the Tournament against Guinea.
